Miracast technology is an invention of the twenty-first century that enables a user to mirror contents on the screen of their devices or computer to another screen or projector. In this guide, we shall be looking at how to fix the problem associated with your device not supporting Miracast.
How to resolve Miracast connection issues on Windows
Step 1: Update Network Drivers
If your computer does not support Miracast, the first thing to do is to check if your network drivers are updated. If not updated, this might be why you’re not able to mirror your screen on another screen.
Step 2: Check to know if your device supports Miracast
You must be sure your device supports Miracast before trying to fix the error. To check, follow the following procedures;
i. Click Win + R. A run pops up, asking you to enter folder name. Enter “dxdiag” and press “OK”
ii. Click “Save All information” in the next prompt.
iii. Select a folder you will like to save the text file to, and click “Save”
iv. Click the Win + Q hotkey afterwards. You will see a Cortana search box pop up, enter “Notepad”. Click “OK”
v. Go to “File”, click “Open” and select the “DxDiag” file.
vi. Scroll down the screen and see information on “Miracast” under “System Information”. If your device supports Miracast, you will see “Available”. If not, “Not Available” will be displayed.
Step 3: Check if WiFi is enabled on the host and target devices
i. In the Cortana, input “run”, double-click and open.
ii. Enter “ms-settings: network-wifi”, and click “OK”.
iii. The WiFi setting pops up. Toggle it ON if it’s off. Also, you must also be sure that WiFi has been enabled on the target device.
Some users have claimed that the “Your Computer Does Not Support Miracast” error pops up even when they are sure their device supports it. If you are sure your device supports this feature, just check the WiFi and be sure it’s switched ON on both devices. The procedure to switch ON WiFi on the target device depends on the type of device you are trying to mirror your screen on.
Step 4: Select Auto For Wireless Mode Selection
i. Click on the Start Button on your host device (Windows 10). Tap the “Device Manager” icon.
ii. Click on the “Network Adapters” option.
iii. A wireless network adapter is displayed. Click on it, and hover your mouse over the “Properties” option and right-click. It will be displayed if the device is working perfectly.
iii. Click the “Advanced Lab” tab that pops up just below. You’ll see a display of information on whether your device supports Miracast or not.
iv. Click on the “Wireless Mode Selection” in the drop-down.
v. After that, you’ll see options in the “Value” menu, click on “Auto”, and press “OK”.
By selecting the “Auto Option” for wireless Mode Selection, you can fix the “Your device doesn’t support Miracast” error.
Step 5: Reinstall the wireless adapter driver
i. Select “Run” in the Start Button.
ii. Input “devmgmt.msc” in the Run and press “OK”
iii. Go to the Device Manager and expand the Network Adapters
iv. Right-click “Wireless network adapter”. An option will pop up on the screen. Click on “Uninstall Device”.
v. After the driver has been uninstalled, restart the host device. The driver will be re-installed automatically.
